Senior Intellectual Property Counsel, Korea
Role Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to lead and manage all Intellectual Property (“IP”) matters for Cynosure Lutronic Korea and contribute to the company’s global IP strategy. The Senior IP Counsel will ensure that Cynosure Lutronic’s innovations, patents, and trademarks are strategically protected and leveraged to support global growth.
This role will work closely with the R&D function in Korea and globally to guide patent strategy and manage IP portfolios related to product development. The position will report directly to the Global Chief Legal Officer and collaborate with regional and functional leaders across Legal, R&D, and Commercial functions to ensure consistent, business-aligned IP protection strategies worldwide.
Role Responsibilities:
STRATEGIC
• Develop, implement, and maintain a proactive IP strategy that aligns with Cynosure Lutronic’s business objectives and technology roadmap.
• Partner with R&D leadership to identify, protect, and optimize the company’s intellectual assets through patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
• Provide strategic advice to the Global Chief Legal Officer and executive team on IP portfolio management, enforcement, and risk mitigation.
• Oversee IP due diligence related to product development, collaborations, and potential acquisitions or partnerships.
OPERATIONAL
• Manage all aspects of patent and trademark prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement in Korea and globally (including U.S., EU, and other jurisdictions).
• Collaborate directly with engineers, scientists, and R&D management to draft invention disclosures and assess patentability.
• Coordinate with external patent counsel to ensure timely and cost-effective prosecution and defense of IP rights.
• Provide internal training and guidance to employees on IP protection and compliance.
• Oversee trademark clearance, filing, and enforcement to protect global brand assets.
• Develop and maintain internal IP policies and procedures consistent with global standards.
• Support contract negotiations involving IP terms, licensing, or joint development activities.

• Act as the company’s lead IP expert and trusted advisor to R&D, product, and business teams.
• Manage relationships with external IP counsel in Korea and internationally to optimize quality, consistency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and education on IP matters across the organization.
• Foster a culture of innovation and IP awareness among technical and business teams.

• Strong understanding of global patent prosecution, PCT filings, and enforcement mechanisms.
• Proven success aligning IP strategy with product development and commercialization goals.
• Experience negotiating and drafting IP-related agreements (e.g., NDAs, license, and collaboration agreements).
• Prior exposure to medical device or technology-driven industries preferred.
Experience and Education:
• Korean Patent attorney/agent (변리사) license is required
• Minimum 10 years of patent prosecution experience, including both in-house (in a global technology or device manufacturing company) and patent law firm.
• Strong familiarity with U.S. and EU IP systems in addition to Korean IP law.
• Prior experience working with or within a multinational corporate environment.
• Fluency in Korean and English required; additional languages (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, or German) a plus.
